Staður

Flateyri is a village located in the Westfjords region of Iceland, specifically on the northern shore of Önundarfjörður. It has a history as a trading post since 1792 and was a significant whaling and shark fishing center in the 19th century. The village is notable for its resilience, having rebuilt after a devastating avalanche in 1995 that killed 20 people. Flateyri is also known as the childhood home of Icelandic journalist Reynir Traustason, where he began his career as a fisherman.
