Norðausturland, also known as Northeast Iceland, is one of the eight traditional regions of Iceland, located in the northern part of the island. It is characterized by its vast and sparsely populated areas, dramatic landscapes including mountains, lava fields, and fjords, and a strong connection to both the sea and land. Akureyri, with a population of 19,542 in 2024, is the largest town in the region and serves as a significant cultural and service hub for northern Iceland.
