Stofnun

Evrópuráðið, also known as the Council of Europe, is an international organization founded in 1949 to uphold human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Europe. Iceland has been a member since 1950 and actively participates through its delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly and representation in other bodies like the European Court of Human Rights. The organization is distinct from the European Union, though both share the European flag and aim to promote European values. The Council of Europe provides advisory support on constitutional matters, notably through its Venice Commission, which assists states in aligning their legal and institutional structures with European standards.
