Palestinians are an Arab ethnoreligious group native to the Levant region of Palestine, who share a cultural and ethnic identity, speak Palestinian Arabic, and have close religious, linguistic, and cultural ties with other Levantine Arabs. Iceland was the first Nordic and Western country to recognize the independence of Palestine, establishing full diplomatic relations. There is an active Iceland-Palestine Association that supports the Palestinian struggle and advocates for a just and peaceful solution to the conflict. Prominent Palestinians and Icelanders of Palestinian heritage, such as Salmann Tamimi and Amal Tamimi, have played significant roles in Icelandic society and politics.
