The Sjálfstæðisflokkur, or Independence Party, is a liberal-conservative political party in Iceland, founded in 1929. It has historically been the largest and most influential party in Icelandic politics, advocating for economic liberalism, lower taxes, national sovereignty, and a pragmatic blend of market-oriented principles with a Nordic welfare state. The party has participated in the majority of Icelandic governments since 1944, with its leaders often serving as Prime Minister.
