Samkeppniseftirlitið

Stofnun

Samkeppniseftirlitið, also known as the Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA), is an Icelandic government agency responsible for enforcing competition law in Iceland. Its primary role is to prevent unreasonable barriers and restrictions on business freedom, combat harmful oligopolies and anti-competitive practices, and facilitate market access for new competitors. The ICA also ensures compliance with Articles 53 and 54 of the EEA Agreement, which Iceland is a party to. The agency monitors both public and private entities and has been involved in notable cases, including collusion among oil companies and imposing significant fines for breaches of competition law.
