Lithuania (Litháen in Icelandic) is a country in Northern Europe and one of the Baltic states. It holds significant importance in Iceland due to historical ties, as Iceland was the first country to officially recognize Lithuania's independence from the Soviet Union in February 1991. This act of recognition fostered strong bilateral relations, with Lithuania expressing gratitude through various initiatives, including a "thank you Iceland" campaign. Lithuanians constitute the second-largest minority in Iceland, making up about 1.2% of the total population, and contribute significantly to various sectors of the Icelandic economy.
