Svartsengi is a significant geothermal field and volcanic system located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, approximately 4 km north of Grindavík. It is home to the Svartsengi power station, a geothermal power plant established in 1976, which provides hot water for district heating to over 21,000 households across the Reykjanes Peninsula and generates electricity. The area is also notable as the origin of the famous Blue Lagoon, a popular geothermal spa created from the power plant's discharge. Since December 2023, Svartsengi has been the site of ongoing volcanic activity, with a series of fissure eruptions occurring in the Eldvörp–Svartsengi volcanic system, impacting the nearby town of Grindavík.
