Svíar is the Icelandic term for Swedes, the people of Sweden. Iceland and Sweden share a long history, with diplomatic relations established in 1940, and both nations are members of various Nordic and international organizations. The term "Svíar" can also refer to the historical tribal Swedes, and in modern Icelandic, it does not distinguish between the ancient and modern Swedes as some other Scandinavian languages do.
