Moskva, also known as Moscow, is the capital and largest city of Russia. In Icelandic media, it is frequently mentioned in the context of Russia-Icelandic relations, particularly regarding diplomatic ties and political events. Notably, Iceland became the first European country to suspend its embassy operations in Moscow in August 2023 due to the war in Ukraine, though this did not constitute a severance of diplomatic relations. Historically, Moscow and Russia have held a certain fascination for Icelanders, with some viewing Russians as possessing similar qualities to themselves, but in greater measure.
