Hveragerði is a town and municipality in southwestern Iceland, approximately 45 kilometers (28 miles) east of Reykjavík, known for its extensive geothermal activity. Often called "the Hot Spring Town" or "the Flower Village," it is situated in a highly active geothermal area within the Hengill central volcano system. This geothermal energy is harnessed to heat numerous greenhouses, making Hveragerði a significant center for horticulture in Iceland, producing fruits, vegetables, and flowers year-round, including some tropical produce. The town's geothermal features also attract tourists, offering hot springs, hiking trails, and opportunities for natural hot spring bathing.
