Hæstiréttur, also known as the Supreme Court of Iceland, is the final court of appeal and the highest court in the Icelandic judiciary system. Established in 1920, it plays a crucial role in ensuring the consistent interpretation and application of Icelandic law, safeguarding the Constitution, and reviewing the constitutionality of laws and executive actions. The court is composed of seven justices, with cases typically heard by a panel of five, or seven in particularly important matters.
