Vigdís Finnbogadóttir is an Icelandic politician and theatre director who served as the fourth President of Iceland from 1980 to 1996. She holds the distinction of being the world's first democratically elected female head of state, serving for 16 years, making her the longest-serving elected female head of state in history. Beyond her presidency, she has been a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and a member of the Club of Madrid, advocating for Icelandic culture, language, and women's rights.
